Cetana's Publications Project was created to produce multilingual dictionaries and books. In addition to the dominant Myarmar language, the country's approximately 135 ethnic groups speak many other languages.
Cetana's first trilingual children's dictionary (English/Myanmar/Karen) was published in Myanmar in 2005. This dictionary was produced by a team of translators, including Aye Aye Swe, Tin Tin Aye, and Victoria Morss. Chief among them was K'Neh Lay, who did the Karen translation and the computer desktop publishing. Sai Hseng Twill provided charming illustrations. The dictionary was reviewed by Emerald Nyo, Gillian Moe, and U Thi Ha for the Myanmar and Karen translations. Support was provided by Victoria Morss and Ingyin Zaw.
We are especially pleased that a paperback of the Karen edition has just been printed in Thailand for circulation to the refugee camps on the border.
The Kachin trilingual dictionary was printed in 2006 and is now available by contacting Cetana at the email address given. The Shan will be printed in 2008. As dictionaries are sold the profits are used for reprinting.
