Tin May Thein

The Board of Directors of the Cetana Foundation would like to welcome our new Executive Director, Tin May Thein.

In January, Tin-May Thein (Judy) assumed the

responsibilities of Executive Director for Cetana Educational Foundation.  She replaces Ethelyn Pankratz, Interim Executive Director since 2005, and John Young, the original Executive Director and a member of the Cetana Board since the Foundation’s founding in l993.

Tin-May Thein brings to Cetana a considerable knowledge of both Myanmar and the United States, having served at the U.S. Embassy in Yangon from 1988 to 2005 as Political Specialist, Economic Specialist and in various Economic and Commercial capacities.

Earlier, she was Administrative Officer of a USAID project; performed vital functions for both the Swedish and Netherlands Consuls-General in Yangon; and for a decade taught English and mathematics in Yangon and Mergui, Southern Burma.

Her experience and the high regard in which she is held by organizations both inside and outside Myanmar should provide a valuable resource for Cetana’s long-term development and growth.
